Description:
This credit-bearing course will introduce participants to different architectural and urban environments that have emerged from the state of rapid urbanization in Asia. In particular, architecture and their inhabitants demonstrate intelligence and resilience in generating value, or overcoming adversities under pressurized socio-political and economic conditions. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the histories and theories corresponding to the specific conditions arising from the three cities they will be visiting. Different methods of observation, analysis and representation will be taught in order for participants to broaden their knowledge of architecture and the city, and to promote a more diverse and tolerant attitude towards difference and change.
This summer programme is a 24-day design and research studio organized by the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture. Taught with daily learning activities by a diverse group of faculty members from the University of Hong Kong, and speakers from internationally renowned universities and independent research groups, this course offers participants a design studio experience within Asia’s most vibrant contexts. This program will link up with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Future Cities Lab, Asian Urban Lab, Kangwon National University, and others.
