以下是设计事务所提供的项目简介:

For the hotel’s 10th anniversary, Gastwerk’s restaurant Mangold was also redesigned. The foundation for the concept was the strong impression of the red brick building. Our interior design offers an apt solution for an equivalent; we generated a fresh new look using classic materials which promises the guests a vivifying evening with fine cuisine.

Our client: Hotelier Kai Hollmann commits himself to catering

Kai Hollmann is known for various inspiring hotel concepts. During the relaunch of his hotel Gastwerk he even extended his creative output to catering. The restaurant Mangold supplements the idea of perfect hospitality in a building with character and visible traces of life.

Our task: Create a restaurant in a design hotel

The Hotel Gastwerk is located in a former coal warehouse which was built around the year 1870 as a part of the gasworks. Before its relaunch a first-class Italian restaurant was connected to the Gastwerk. But this time a more open kitchen concept with an international approach was planned. It was important to create a clear reference to the concise building envelope with its early industrial architecture.

Our idea: Clear statements using materials

The building’s original character was stressed in Dreimeta’s concept and superelevated by utilising material from the industry. At the same time fabrics and upholstery with noble haptic qualities effect an exciting contrast. The restaurant is separated into structures with a central middle and partitioned areas of the dining room. Muted tones are the prevalent colours, broken by some clear accents such as purple tones.

Our creative solution: Authenticity with modern variations

The unrendered, listed brick walls were not to be touched. We countered this almost ‘raw’ character of the red brick building with materials which were also used during the early industrial ages around the year 1870. Haptics and colours such as naturally tanned leather, mud-green mohair velvet, patinated brass and massive, whitewashed oak wood and raw steel were leading features. The old oak panel floor was only polished up a little and oiled to maintain its original impression. The room was partitioned into different functional areas; a massive classic-style table in the centre on which newspapers and magazines are displayed. Four pillars arranged around the table serve as cascade-like ceiling-to-floor chandeliers, which altogether form a kind of golden carillon. Partitions made of steel and violet tinted glass panes quote the industrial history of the building and separate the room in natural harmony. In this part of the restaurant we worked with furniture which is reminiscent of the 1950ies. A grand bar on which breakfast is served in the morning changes into a show-cooking stage in the evening.

Our success: Ambitious design equivalent to the cuisine

The Mangold has fulfilled its promise of quality. It is known for gastronomical top performance and a characteristic atmosphere. Its design underlines the joy of indulgence with noble and extravagant details, while creating an authentic habitat for international varieties from the kitchen.
