Bjorklunden Chapel

这是位于劳伦斯大学的博因顿教堂,具有12世纪后期挪威木板教堂的风格。The Kubala Washatko Architects 与一个古迹保护研究所一起完成了对该建筑的修缮,并恢复了这个拥有悠久历史的建筑的竣工图。

Björklunden Vid Sjön is a 425-acre estate on Lake Michigan in Door County, Wisconsin, which serves as Lawrence University’s northern campus, hosting retreats and seminars for Lawrence students throughout the academic year and adult continuing-education seminars during the summer.

TKWA was asked to develop a building assessment and long-term maintenance plan for a complex of historic Scandinavian-style buildings located on the property. In addition, TKWA worked with students from the Historic Preservation Institute at the UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning to create a set of as-built drawings for the historic buildings.

Boynton Chapel (shown) was built in a late 12th-century Norwegian stave church (stavkirke) style. Handcrafted between 1939 and 1947, the chapel is modeled after the Garmo stave church at Maihaugen in Lillehammer, Norway. A popular site for weddings and a favorite stop among Door County tourists, the chapel contains 41 hand-painted frescoes and numerous exceptionally fine carved-wood furnishings.
